South Deschutes County – Some Kind of Hush

Have you noticed that there seems to be a hush about what is going on with the septic issues in South Deschutes County.  All summer long we heard of changes being considered about new septic systems, having to up grade old septic systems and so on.

They say it is always quietest before the storm, is this the quiet before our storm?  Improving the way we take care of our ground water is important to each of us.  After all the ground water is what we use every day, none of us want to ruin our souce of water.

Septic issues are similar around the United States.  I have a friend who is a REALTOR® in Minnasota.  Teri  Eckholm deals with septic issues just like we do, Teri has written a couple articles about septic systems – one of which I feel may be similar to the new system Deschutes County is trying to put in place.

Here is what Teri had to say;

Considering moving to a home on acreage? Often country homes are too far away from public sewer lines and require an individual sewage or septic system to handle wastewater and material. These systems are an integral part of your new home and need to be cared for properly. Having the system replaced can cost between $8,000 and $20,000. Since the tank is underground and cannot always be located in the same location, your yard and landscaping is usually changed when a new system is require.
