Climate

Central Oregon is often known as the “Sunny Side of the Mountains” located east of the Cascades in the “high desert” area.  Our climate is dry with very low if any humidity, snow often falls in the winter but there is lots of blue sky all year long. Summers, are not extremely hot it is not unusual to have a 40 degree swing from the low to the high temperature each day.  Days will be hot and dry, with evenings cool.

Services

Sunriver has it’s own fire and police departments that service the mix of full time residents and vacation homes/rentals. Sunriver has a strong design review policy and rules and regulations that help protect the safety, well being and property values of the community.

Developers and Owners Association have made the extra effort to keep the resort area safe with a country feel.  There are a few things you won’t find in Sunriver.  You won’t find a great deal of overhead lighting at night, no backlit commercial signage, and no speed limits over 30 mph.  Homes in the development have design and paint restrictions to keep a consistent look and feel with the native environment and with each other. You will find an active patrol by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Sunriver Police Department, all of which keep property crime and accidents in the development to a minimum.

Sunriver Resort played a key role in construction of a highway that provides excellent access to Mt. Bachelor, one of the best ski resorts in the Western US. Sunriver provides easy access to  a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities.

SUNRIVER GOLF

“The Woodlands Course” is the work of architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. and was built in 1982. This course exhibits beautiful bunkering and elevated greens and emphasies creative play around the greens. Regular tees for the course measure 6,068 yards. Accuracy off the tee is essential to playing well at the Woodlands course. The course weaves its way through a mix of old Lodge pole and Ponderosa Pines. The isolation created by the trees gives the golfer a sense of solitude. The Woodlands is built on rolling terrain and water comes into play on seven holes.

“The Meadows Course” features seven holes that border the meandering Sun River. It is a wonderful course to play. With four sets of tees the Meadows Course has something for everyone. The course begins at the Sunriver Lodge and winds its way along the meadows and groves of Ponderosa Pines, demanding precise approach shots to elevated greens. The Meadows Course rewards accurate hitters and those with a good read on the fast, challenging greens.

Sunriver Resort golf courses (Crosswater, Woodlands & The Meadows) are all played during the Northwest Dodge Dealers Pacific Amateur Golf Classic. This central Oregon Visitors Association event is one of the driving forces for the championship caliber of amateur golf in the West.

Sunriver Resort is the official host site of the Pacific Amateur Golf Classic held each fall in Central Oregon. Central Oregon was ranked number 23 in the Top 50 Golf Destinations in the World by Golf Digest.
