One of the great things about living in Central Oregon is the wildlife. I love to watch the deer, elk and even the squirrels. As a child there were not that many elk in our area but they are here now and with hunting restrictions and good management I hope they will continue to thrive. Elk are an amazing species they are bigger than cows and yet can get through the forest with the grace of a small animal.
One word of caution to drivers, an elk’s eyes do not glow in your headlights like a deer’s will. They are often moving during the day and night so be-careful when you see them make a mental note of if and be-careful at night. Elk can do a lot of damage to your vehicle.
