La Pine is known in the summer for water type recreation, such as fishing, water skiing and swimming. Some of the most common places of interest are The Big Deschutes River, Little Deschutes River, Wickiup Reservoir, Crane Prairie, North Twin, South Twin, Cultus Lake, Lava Lake, Paulina Lake, East Lake; there are many more but there are only so many I can mention here. Most of these areas also have camping facilities.

La Pine State Park is one of the State’s largest parks offering camping, rental of yurts, and cabins. The Big Deschutes River runs through this beautiful park. It is common to see people fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and just watching the river go by. This park is also the home of the largest Ponderosa appropriately called Big Tree.
