It is hard to believe that Duck Season starts next weekend – Duck season is a ritual in our household – it is the time where I become a weekend widow. Every Saturday morning and often times Sunday my husband heads out at the crack of dawn for the hunt.
He and his brother head out and this year Max (our 9 month old lab) will head out to the lakes and rivers with thoughts of geese and ducks. It is a cold and wet hunt and only those crazy enough will go. Although the season runs well into winter the snow gets too deep and the water freezes so, the season can be as long or short as mother nature allows.
Duck hunting in Central Oregon is a fall and wintertime favorite of many. We have a lot of migratory birds and upland birds. Knowing your rules and regulations are very important. Most of the sporting goods stores have a free publication put out by fish & wildlife that explains each bag limit, what licenses are needed and what additional documentations are needed.

This sounds like a lot of fun! That part of the country is absolutely gorgeous!

Thesa,
I don’t like hunting myself but a lot of people do enjoy it. Deer season is the big hunting season in our neck of the woods.

They are so cute – I don’t think I could hunt anything. Of course I could have shot the one who bit my daughter years ago, so who knows.
