About Bend Oregon

Bend, Oregon once a sleepy little mill town and has become a popular well rounded destination city.

The city of Bend features many different types of climate. The east side is high desert vegetation with sage brush and Juniper trees, to the west you will encounter some Juniper but as the elevation increases you will find Jackpine and Ponderosa Pine.

Bend is surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land and BLM (Bureau of Land Management). To the South is Lava Butte, Sunriver, The Three Rivers area and La Pine and to the North is Redmond.

Well known for its scenic setting, mild climate, year-round recreation opportunities and growing economy. At an elevation of 3,625 feet, Bend enjoys the predominately dry climate of the high desert. Sunny days, cool nights and low humidity characterize the weather.

In 1904 the settlers voted to incorporate to a city and in January of 1905 Farewell Bend became Bend. A sign was erected that read Welcome to Bend, Oregon.

The old Brooks-Scanlon mill once a major employer then vacated, is again alive and booming but not with the saws it was once, now with the hustle bustle of the people shopping, dining and enjoying the entertainment on the riverfront. The historic down-town area is busy with art, fine dining, year-round events and activities.
